You may not know your current Camarillo primary care doctor very well. And chances are, they don’t really know you either. Like most patients who see their family physicians only if they are sick or injured, you get very little face time with the doctor, and they simply treat your issue with a prescription and send you on your way. Rather than focus on preventative lifestyle changes for both mind and body, primary care doctors have packed schedules, have very little time per patient, and in the small amount of time they do have, they simply bandaid patient problems with quick-fix prescriptions. It’s not that they don’t want to help, it’s just that the system isn’t built that way.
These days, patients need more than quick appointments and prescriptions. They need a Camarillo primary care doctor like Sara Whatley whose mission is to make personal connections, educate & empower patients, provide comprehensive treatment plans, and offer an affordable alternative to the current healthcare model.
Dr. Whatley’s passion is to reclaim the doctor-patient relationship as a real human connection. With empathy and compassion, as your primary care doctor, Sara Whatley listens, treats, and truly makes a difference in the lives of her patients. Let’s get to know her!
Get to Know Camarillo Primary Care Doctor, Dr. Sara Whatley.
- What I want you to know about me, Sara:
I’m a human being just like you! Experiencing life in the same ways- the struggles of being a spouse and a parent and working full time, the challenges that we face in leading a healthy life.
- Things you’ll always find in my purse:
- My wallet
- Headphones
- Kid’s socks
- Kid’s snacks: Typically Justin’s nut butter packets or granola bars
- Gum or mints: Peppermint Altoids, or Icebreaker mints. I’ve tried mini toothbrushes but I don’t love them. I like having fresh breath, so mints help!
- Lip gloss: I really like this brand called Crunchy. It’s organic and vegan. I have their lip gloss in the color Date Night.
- Trash: Haha!
- A random medical item that doesn’t belong in a purse
- Mace
- Keys: This is the only place so I don’t lose them!
- Loose change
- Pen: I am a pen klepto! I accidentally take them all the time!
- Crayons
- What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who chew with their mouths open. Also, rude people, who don’t say please or thank you. I’m always guiding my kids to be polite, so it’s easy to accidentally correct adults too.
- What would your last meal be?
I am very much a foodie so it’s so hard to choose. Right now I’m on an Indian food kick, so I’d pick Indian food. I love bowls- I add everything up in a bowl and gobble it up.
My current favorite Indian dish: Since I eat mostly eat plant-based, I love all dishes with eggplant or potatoes.
- What is one sweet you can’t live without?
I could actually live without all sweets. Once I cut out sugar I realized it made me feel really bad. But if I had to choose one treat, it would be cookies and ice cream. Fresh warm chocolate chip cookie and rocky road ice cream- the best!
- What’s another career that sounds really cool?
Something with travel. Maybe doing documentaries where I’d be meeting new people, learning about cultures, and social issues, and trying different foods.
- Do you speak any other languages?
A little bit of Spanish. My kids are bilingual and bi-literate and go to a dual language school. At this school, the students are bilingual by 4th grade! This is such an important skill to have later in life.
- Do you have any secret talents?
Ha! I cluck like a chicken really well. I’m actually a little more creative and artsy than I give myself credit for. However, I am not musical at all!
- Do you collect anything?
I’m actually more of a minimalist. Marie Kondo style. I like to un-collect. I’m a combo of Marie Kondo and Get Organized. It’s funny because I have one child who is just like me and one child who likes to collect all the treasures!
- If you were driving alone, what is a song you would rock out to?
Shallow by Bradley Cooper & Lady Gaga, or anything by Adele!
- What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
The Plant-based Athlete by Matt Frazier and Robert Cheeke!
- What is your favorite way to exercise?
I love my Peloton. Best investment ever!
